KENWORTH 100-TON ROTATOR TOWING & RECOVERY

2025 KENWORTH W990 TWIN STEER TRI AXLE CENTURY M100 100-TON ROTATOR

Defining a Superload

A superload is a shipment that exceeds standard legal limits for size and weight. These limits vary by jurisdiction, but generally, a load is considered a superload if it significantly exceeds the following dimensions:

  • Width: Typically over 16 feet wide.
  • Height: Usually over 15 feet high.
  • Length: Generally more than 150 feet long.
  • Weight: Often surpasses 200,000 pounds.

These dimensions mean that superloads require special permits, additional planning, and coordination with multiple agencies to ensure safe and legal transport.

Why Superloads Require Special Attention

Superloads pose unique challenges that standard oversized loads do not. The sheer size and weight of these shipments can impact road safety, infrastructure, and traffic flow. Therefore, transporting superloads involves meticulous planning and coordination. This includes route surveys to identify potential obstacles such as low bridges, tight turns, or weak road surfaces that may not support the load’s weight.

KENWORTH 50-TON ROTATOR TOWING & RECOVERY

2025 KENWORTH W990 TRI AXLE NRC CSR50 50-TON ROTATOR

What Trailers Are Used For Heavy Haul Trucking?

Heavy haul shipments, in excess of the dimension and weight thresholds listed above, require some of the most specialized trailers the transportation industry has to offer.

For heavy haul shipments that exceed 14 feet, 6 inches tall, 14 feet, 6 inches wide and/or 100 feet long, but not 55,000 pounds adding axles isn’t always necessary. Here are some common trailers used in these scenarios:

  • Removable gooseneck trailers (RGNs)
  • Extendable RGNs
  • Flatbed, step-deck and double-drop trailers
  • Extendable flatbed trailers
  • Lowboy trailers with outriggers

As a heavy haul load’s overall weight rises, the composition of the trailer used to haul it will change. To further distribute weight, additional axles need to be used.

By and large, as soon as your commodity weight exceeds 50,000 pounds, you’ll need no less than six total axles to haul it. The majority of shipments — those of legal weight — utilize five total axles (1 steer, 2 drive, 2-3 trailer).

Using a three-axle trailer (RGN, step-deck, etc.) as well as a heavy haul 4-axle semi-tractor, is more than an adequate solution for “heavy haul”  shipments up to 85,000 pounds.

Heavy haul loads beyond this point, will require additional axles that will include jeeps and stingers to ensure weight is distributed correctly.

The new CSR50 and its Sliding Rotator technology will take you to a whole new level of performance. Versatile and profitable, the CSR50 comes with a bold new look, but the body has a lot more to offer than stylish : 25% more storage space, additional rear compartment and access door for stabilizer pads.

The new ergonomic control panel propels the operators experience to new heights by giving you full power over the chaos of the work scene.

The entire product structure has been redesigned to offer more rigidity and better resistance to torsion. Quick release underlift hydraulic connections, allowing effortless hydraulic connection even with residual pressure in the system, also completes the new CSR. The CSR50 is a versatile recovery truck that can tow its fair share.

  • Special Equipment for Rigging - Spreader Bar
  • Rigging Points - Rear and front of Track Roller on Both Sides
  • Where to Position Lowboy for Unloading Casualty- First measure the wheel deck of the lowboy from the ground to see how much i need to raise the casualty to clear the rear deck as the lowboy driver pulls forward
  • How Will you Lift the Casualty - It will require a 2-Step Lift. The rating of the boom is at risk of damaging the Kenworth. I will lift the entire casualty (Even Though I am 8,350 lbs. Over the Rotator Rating for a 34' Boom Height) up 2 inches and have lowboy operator pull forward slowly until the casualty is about to touch the rear deck. Then i will have the lowboy operator disconnect from lowboy. I will put 8" x 8"x 6' Timber under the tracks if the tracks have overhang to get the weight off the lowboy before the lowboy disconnect the trailer.
  • Then i will have the Lowboy Operator with his front Tow Hook connect to the rear of the lowboy to pull the lowboy backwards to clear the lowboy from the trailer.
  • If the tracks does not have a overhang I will then have the lowboy operator back up to the the casualty about to hit the gooseneck while i have the casualty airborne 1 to 2" off the deck of Lowboy..
  • Then i will have the lowboy operator disconnect the trailer and this will keep the casualty low to the ground as possible as i lift the equipment off the trailer.
  • This casualty requires a bigger rotator or another rotator to assist in the lifting process.

  • 1st Attempt - I will first hook the Motor Home Pintle Hook Adapter to unlock pintle hook to stop injury or damage to Motor Home and Turn the Motorhome in a position where i can hook to my wheel lift  if i need to tow the trailer alone.
  • 2nd Attempt - I will get the Spreader Bar and hook to all for tires to lift the 6,000 lbs.The boom will be at 40 Degrees with height of 19' and Limit of 27,100 lbs. I will then Tie a Rope to the Passenger Side Wheel so as i lift the Vehicle I will turn it around as if the Motorist can Drive and Hook up the trailer or tow the Vehicle after Powertrain assessment and Inspection of vehicle
  • 3rd Attempt - I will call for the NRC 40TB to Assist me if the Truck is not operational or safe for the motorist to drive. I am to big to tow the Truck but i can hook up a Pintle hook to wheel lift to tow the Motor Home.
  • 4th Attempt -If the entire unit is able to be towed as one Unit. I will Move the Truck to a position where i could connect the unit and have NRC 40TB Transport the entire Unit to safety
  • If All Attempts fail What is The Alternative To Helping Motor Carrier - I would advise the State Police I need the shoulder or the shoulder and right lane once recovery is completed. There is another Truck i need to assist with the tow and possible fluid on the Highway from the Driver side Brakes Lines that need to be cleaned up. I can open the road but i need to have space to clean up the spill and hook the unit for tow.

  • 3rd Attempt - I will connect the right-side cable to the snatch block and then pull cable to the casualty
  • 4th Attempt - I will then hook a 4" strap to the Opposite or far side Drive Tire to pull the Zero Turn Mower on all tires and then pull the Zero Turn Mower to the wrecker and call the 10-Ton Roll Back Carrier to be loaded and transport to the Owner location
  • If All Attempts fail What is The Alternative To Helping Motor Carrier - I would advise the Rocky Mount Police that i wasn't sure of the accident scene if i could bring the 10-Ton roll back to do the recovery, So i brought the wrecker instead. I will need a roll back to take the casualty away and clear the highway

I will use one on the rear of my rollback bed on the driver side to take the cable in a up position to the top of the highmount about 6" above the tire tread of the trailer to pull the vehicle up to the top level. I will hook the cable to the next vehicle and back it up to position
  • SLOT #5 VEHICLE LOADING- I will not move the Carrier. I will extend the wheel lift to the 116" Position and attachj the snatch Block to Wheel Lift and attach the other snatch block under the front bumper on the driver side of my rollback and repeat the process of Vehicle #4 placement
  • SLOT #6 VEHICLE LOADING - I will move my rollback to the wheellift is close to be even with the last vehicle placement the Rear bumper (Last Vehicle was driven on). I will ask the Car Hauler to lower the entire trailer top deck as low as possible to load the last vehicle so i can only use one snatch Block with my side pull. I will hook only one snatch block to the highframe about 6" above the carrier wheel tracks and this vehicle i will back on with the same process as the others.
  • SLOT #7 VEHICLE LOADING - I will move my roll back to the side winch is in the middle of the end of the Peterbilt 589 and in front of the trailer right at the 5th Wheel. I will ask the car hauler to raise Slot #4 to the highest possible height and Turn Slot #4 Front Down to about 4' just enough space for the dodge charge hood could clear. I will place the snatch block to the rear top of the Peterbilt 589 Slot #2 rear and free spool the winch to connect to the next vehicle. Once i get close to the Peterbilt the cable angle needs to be lower not to damage more of the vehicle. I will then pull up the Rollback after side winch is secured and use 2 snatch blocks to pull the vehicle within 18" of Slot#3 Vehicle to allow the carrier to make a tight turn if need be
  • SLOT #8 VEHICLE LOADING - Before moving vehicle i will have Car Hauler Rest Slot #4 on a angle where the bottom bumper want to almost touch the slot #7 hood and the center of Slot #4 to almost touch the roof of Slot #7 and then turn them both up to load my next vehicle.I will use (2) Snatch Blocks to load the next two vehicles. The Dodge Charger is 14.6" Longer than each slot. The top slot i can have overhang off the Top of Peterbilt and the rear of the trailer to compensate 73" of overhang for 5 Dodge Chargers. On the Bottom row i have the sleeper where i can't overhang the rear so the Dodge Charger has 14.6" overhang in Slot #7 so i advised the Car Hauler to sit the front of Slot #4 and Slot #7 Low and Tilt top up high as possible under 14' and most underpasses south of New Jersey will give you 14' clearance on U.S. Highways and Interstates. Just maintain 14' or less. In return Slot 8 in underneath i will lod Slot#8 and Skip Slot#9 and go to Slot #10 for the 9th Vehicle. I will use the wheel lift and (2) Snatch blocks loading this vehicle.. I will ask the car hauler to put the front tires on slot #9 instead of slot #8 Keep Slot #9 to the floor of the trailer
  • SLOT #10 VEHICLE LOADING - I will load Slot #10 the 9th Vehicle with the wheel lift

  • 5th Step - I drive the Corvette to the 20' Shipping Container and lay down the ramps. and measure the length of the car. I ask The Salesperson is this the only item being shipped, I then take the measurement of 186" (15.5') I go inside the container and measure 2,5' from the rear wall and Draw a level line on the floor across and i take my magnet base flash light and place it on the line facing up to see the 2.5' mark distance on the side walls. I then measure 7" from the floor and another mark at 11" and i drill 3 holes in between this mark to stop the Corvette from moving forward. I take a 4'x4" x8' board inside after i do both side of drilling holes. I then install the board inside with screws on the outside The Hole i drill is for guidance where i am to hit the lumber. Before i insert the screws all the in. I place silicone all over the hole and screw and into the guidance hole to stop water from entering. Then i take Moving blankets and wrap around the board twice and a rubber band to hold them in place as cushion not to damage the corvette, Then i measure the front hood of the corvette, (Not known the height) I do the same thing except i used 2"x4" x 8' Lumber and i want the to have 6" space above the height of the tallest part of the hood to  the windshield. I then double wrap the board with moving blankets and bands. Then i measure the height of the roof of the corvette (48.6") I make my guidance screw at 55" and 59" and then i will repeat the process. I want 6" space from the roof of the corvette to the lumber and wrap the lumber with blankets the same way
  • 6th Step - I will then load the Corvette into the container. I will get the vehicle inside just before i get the door into the vehicle i put the car in neutral and i roll down the window and i push the car inside so i can see the roof guide and the bumper guide. Once i just touch the guide in the front i stop pushing and apply the parking brake. I then get the small pieces and chock the rear wheel front and in back for movement
  • 7th Step - I then drill hole the same height as the front bumbper for the rear. and install the rear bumper guide from Moving. I then Measuse the Wing Height and install a guide for rear bouncing inside container. I then Take Eye to Sky Hooks and instal 8 of them and then i will take 2" straps to secure the roof and the front hood and the wing for additional downpressure for movement and then close the containers doors

  • 7th Step - I would adjust my mirrors to see the ramp and my driver's side dual tire. Once the outside tire is about to touch the ramp i stop and get out and place the other ramp center of my passenger side Outside tire. Then i will back up to about 6" from the rear of the ramp.
  • 8th Step - I will then put the Chevy 6500 in Park and then i will raise up my deck as if i am dropping the vehicle. I am 5" Higher than the warehouse floor. The max. Loading angle is 10 Degrees. The entire unit is 10 degrees incline. I can now sit the rear deck into the warehouse and off load the vehicle without approach ramps.

2026 KENWORTH T180 w/STELLAR 138 MID-SIZE OTR TIRE SERVICE TRUCK

138 Mid-Size OTR Tire Service Trucks

The Stellar® 138 Series of Mid-Size OTR Tire Service Truck is the perfect choice when a mini OTR is not quite large enough, or when more storage is required.

The standard driver side rail folds down for ease and safety of loading and unloading of tires, as well as sign boards for identification. All the underbody tool compartments come standard with the exclusive Stellar slide-top doors for unobstructive storage access. Stainless-steel automotive-style slam latches and hardware are standard on all tool compartments.

Accessories include: 1/2″ x 50′ and 3/8″ x 50′ hose reels, plastic storage bins and socket racks.

Stellar Mid-Size 138-Series OTR Tire Service Trucks are the perfect choice when a mini OTR tire service truck is not quite large enough to tackle the task at hand, or when a large OTR tire service truck isn’t quite necessary. These mid-size trucks are the epitome of versatility, which comes from the combination of hardworking features — like the rock-solid steel service body, swift tire-handling crane, durable tire-loading liftgate and large hydraulic-driven air compressor. All features and components are specifically designed for the tire industry with the user in mind.

  • Heavy duty steel construction.
  • 15′ long body.
  • Rack body option has 46″ high racks.
  • The standard driver side rail folds down for ease and safety of loading and unloading of tires, as well as sign boards for identification.
  • Abundant storage to hold any and all tools needed for the job.
  • All the underbody tool compartments come standard with exclusive Stellar slide-top doors that slide up and in to allow for fast and easy access inside the compartments.
  • A storage compartment houses the 3/8″ and 1/2″ hose reels, along with the FLR (filter, lubricator and regulator).
  • Recessed, skirt-mounted LED floodlights.
  • Entire body is undercoated.

The Strength of Steel

OTR tire service trucks tend to face the most rugged work environments, so the durability and strength of steel helps ensure a longer and more productive service life. Stellar’s steel-bodied mid-size OTR tire service trucks are superior in withstanding rough roads and off-road conditions.

138 Service Body Features:

  • 15′ long body
  • The rack body has 46″ high racks (driver side folds down)
  • Slide-top doors on all tool compartments
  • Recessed, skirt-mounted LED floodlights
  • Entire body is undercoated

138-15 Mid-Size OTR Tire Service Truck:

  • The 138-15 service body comes in either a 15′ flatbed or with a 15′ rack body with over 60 cubic feet of storage for a combination OTR, fleet and ag service vehicle.
  • 6 underbody tool compartments.
  • A removable liquid ballast skid works well for ag tire service. The left front storage compartment houses the 3/8″ and 1/2″ hose reels, along with the FLR (filter, lubricator and regulator).

138-215 Mid-Size OTR Tire Service Truck:

  • If abundant storage is what you need, Stellar’s 138-215 Mid Size OTR tire service truck boasts 80 cubic feet of storage with 4 underbody tool compartments and 2 vertical front-mounted tool compartments.
  • The 15-foot rack body will hold approximately 40 large truck tires. A removable liquid ballast skid works well for ag tire service.
  • The main storage compartment houses the 3/8″ and 1/2″ hoses, which are top-mounted up and out of the way, along with the FLR (filter, lubricator and regulator) and a 12V trouble light reel.

Cranes

The 138 Series Mid-Size OTR trucks can be equipped with either a model 3200, 4500 or 6000 hydraulic knuckleboom crane. These cranes are designed to handle the largest of farm tires and smaller sized OTR tires, and they are operated by a standard fully proportional radio remote control. The 6000 Series crane will handle up to and including the 45/65 x 45 OTR tire. This package provides 8,500 lbs of payload.

The 46P hydraulic-drive air compressor is mounted on the crane base. This compressor has a 46 cfm at 175 psi output. The location allows for cool, clean, fresh air intake and easy maintenance and serviceability.

Crane Features:

  • Fully proportional radio remote control
  • Fully enclosed extension boom cylinder
  • Hexagon-shaped secondary and extension
  • Integral-mounted pump and PTO
  • Load-holding counterbalance valves
