What we Focus on in a Contract by Quarterly Shipping with Brokers

 "Shipping by quarters" means goods are dispatched according to the fiscal calendar's four three-month periods (Q1: Jan-Mar, Q2: Apr-Jun, Q3: Jul-Sep, Q4: Oct-Dec), often involving large volume pushes at quarter-ends to meet sales targets, which can affect costs and delivery times, leading to freight surges as companies rush orders out before the period closes. 


What it Means

  • Standard Calendar Quarters: A year is split into four quarters for business:
    • Q1: January 1 – March 31
    • Q2: April 1 – June 30
    • Q3: July 1 – September 30
    • Q4: October 1 – December 31.
  • Sales Targets: Companies often consolidate shipments at the end of a quarter (e.g., the last few days of March, June, September, December) to have those sales count in the current quarter's performance. 


Impact on Shipping

  • Freight Surges: Expect increased shipping activity and potential delays or higher costs, especially in the last few days of each quarter, as carriers handle a sudden influx of volume.
  • Order Timing: If you order late in a quarter, your shipment might be pushed to the beginning of the next quarter, or conversely, rushed out at the very end of the current one. 


In Simple Terms
If you order something and it says "shipping by Q2," it means your item will ship sometime between April 1st and June 30th, but often closer to June if ordered in late March, notes Reddit users.
